Geany for MAC
Free, open-source lightweight IDE for Mac with syntax highlighting, code completion, symbol lists, a build system and plugin support.
Geany Overview
Geany is a small, fast integrated development environment built on the GTK toolkit. It was designed to depend on few other packages, while still giving programmers the tools they expect from an IDE: syntax highlighting, code folding, auto-completion, symbol lists and a way to build and run code from inside the editor. It handles many file types, including C, Java, PHP, HTML, Python, Perl and Pascal.
Geany is made by a group of developers and contributors and is released under the GNU General Public License. There are separate Mac downloads for Apple Silicon and Intel. The Mac version follows the system's light or dark appearance, and you can override that in its configuration file. Version 2.1 adds the geany-themes colour schemes, search in the Messages and Compiler panels, and native file dialogs. The project does not state a minimum macOS version on its download page.
Key Features
Geany keeps the useful parts of an IDE in a small editor.
- Syntax highlighting: Colours code for many languages and file types.

- Call tips: Shows function details while you type.
- XML and HTML tags: Closes tags automatically.
- Symbol lists and navigation: Lists the symbols in a file and helps you move between them.
- Build system: Compiles and runs your code from inside the app.
- Projects and plugins: Offers simple project management and a plugin interface for extra features.
